Zoe's 7th Birthday!

Today we celebrated Zoe's 7th Birthday!

It was a busy day but also very fun and a special day that I hope she'll remember.  Her birthday party is on Sunday so the next couple days we'll likely be spent cleaning.

Today included a free breakfast for Zoe at IHOP, a trip to the mall, Build-a-Bear, nail painting, a free cupcake, new clothes (including a new Elsa dress from Grandma Jenny) and dinner at Pizza Ranch.   We bought her a watch so she can practice telling time (and be home on time when she goes to play with neighbor friends).  A couple other gifts she's received this week include: a purse (that looks like a fox), bubble gum, books, a new wallet, stickers, sticker album, a "Frozen" hamper, Tinkerbell watch, Big Hero 6, and an UNO game.

Of course Avery and I had to get a cupcake to share as well...

Gage met up with us at the mall for lunch! :-)

30

This year I am 30.

To commemorate the occasion, I decided that this year I would take a photo each day and at the end of the year I will combine them all into a book.   It's the first year that I've done a 365 project and so far it's going well - today is day 63!

My birthday this year was interesting...  probably my least birthday-like birthday ever.  There was no cake, no candle, no decorations, or present opening, although I did get the opportunity to go shopping with my mother-in-law and grandma-in-law for some new clothes!  The highlight of the birthday though, was when Gage took me to Minneapolis for a couple days!  This was my first time being away from Avery for more than a few hours since she was born.  It had been well over two years since I had been able to go somewhere and be kid-less for a day.  It was fun but very strange!

We walked around nearby the hotel (The Marquette), found a great place to eat (8th St. Grill), and hung out in the hotel room watching TV, doing a puzzle (my new-found love), eating junk food (cheese puffs), and ordered room service for the first time - some super expensive tiramisu.  :-) The next day we went to the Mall of America.  I finally used a $100 gift card for Vera Bradley that Gage bought me a year ago, and I found Avery an adorable birthday dress at the Disney Store.

It was a fun trip and I'm looking forward to similar trips in the future.  I am fairly certain I left a case with a memory card in it there in the hotel though.... that contained many of our Disneyland and CA pictures from December.  :(

This year I also decided enough was enough and I am determined to get down to a reasonable weight. I joined Weight Watchers on January 20th and so far I have lost 10 lbs!  I haven't been exercising much so that's my next goal this month, to get on my treadmill at least 3 times a week and perhaps start doing a DVD workout of some kinds as well.

It's my intention to keep updating this blog as I go through the process of losing weight... hopefully that will serve as some extra incentive for me to stay on track!  We'll see though, I don't exactly have the best track record with this blog.  ;-)

Finding Joy in the Winter Months

For our family, this time of year is full of two things: celebrations and a slightly overwhelming sense of cabin fever. Both Gage and I cel...
